Ten Tips for looking great in Holiday Photos

The holiday season will soon arrive and with it gatherings and parties with coworkers and loved ones. Along with all the eating and festivities will be the inevitable group photos. There is always that person insisting on all the pictures.  Are you the one who always offers to take the picture? Or strategically arranging yourself behind someone taller? Here are a few tips to looking great that will make holiday photos less dreadful.

My number one tip this season is BE IN THEM! Don't hide.
I guarantee you look amazing and your family (as well as yourself) will be glad you are in them.

Tip #2: Say no to bulkiness:

Avoid chunky sweaters. The more form fitting clothing, the more flattering it looks in a photo. Wearing layers is also a good idea.

Tip #3: Flakiness is for pies

When the weather outside is frightful our skin can become ashy and dry. Use extra moisturizer on skin and lips to prevent dryness and cakiness but avoid shimmery/glittery makeup. There is a fine line between looking hydrated and a sheen of oil.

Tip #4: You’re in it for the long haul

Photos are never when you first arrive at a gathering. Usually it’s after you’ve eaten…maybe plotting how early you can leave…that’s when the photos start happening. Be prepared by using long-wearing makeup. By wearing makeup that will withstand, you’re assured to look great without rushing to the bathroom for last minute touch ups.

Tip #5: Families can be loud but your clothing shouldn’t be

Avoid loud prints. Loud prints immediately draw the eye to them. You don’t want to draw attention specifically to you. The exception is if the entire group chooses to wear ugly holiday sweaters, which can be a great way to make photos enjoyable.

Tip #6: Everyone has an angle

A good pose is an angle of 45 degrees and step back slightly with one foot.

Tip #7: Curves ahead

For added curves, push a hip towards the camera. It gives the illusion of curves that may or may not exist.

Tip #8: Popularity contest

There’s a reason why the hands on hips trick is so popular-it instantly gives your waist definition. Strategic placement of your hands is a key element to creating curves.

Tip #9: Create some distance

For a slimmer line, push away from the person with the camera. Putting some distance between you and the camera will make you look slimmer.

Tip #10: Avoid cheesiness

Instead of holding a “say cheese” smile try a soft-medium laugh. Fake laughs look like real smiles.
